2.4 ghz - transmitters

guys,

i've been looking around the net to purchase a 2.4 ghz transmitter set. However the vary in price from £45 to £ 450. Can anyone provide me with suggestions as to what I should be looking for when going to buy a Transmitter. I suppose it's got to be 4channels up: two for drive, one for weapon, and one to turn robot off or on? What mode 2 or 1?

You could use this set to convert a 40 meg set if you have a decent one,

Grab a cheap old 35MHz/40MHz transmitter off of eBay, such as:

Then convert it to 2.4GHz using DIY kits. This allows you to use all the fancy features of a more expensive radio but means you don't have to fork out lots of money to be using 2.4GHz. The conversion process itself is very straightforward and involves drilling a couple of holes and soldering a few wires.

I've used the Corona modules, that Gary has linked to, in the past. But they've not been 100% reliable for me, and since I've used FrSky modules, I've not had any problems. Instant bind, programmable failsafes in the receiver, and nice and cheap :)

out of that list i'd say your best bet is dx6i, i use one and it works well and has programmable features which is nice. my favourite transmitter though has to be my hitec ranger 3 40mhz, trying to snap another up and convert it :)

jonny- i think mr kent (my tech teacher) has a couple, they may be 35mhz though

Might try one of these things on Eric's transmitter, I forgot how expensive a 2.4gHz transmitter with enough channels would be so this might be a good alternative.

Just a quick question, does all 2.4ghz transmitters have a fail safe when turning on/off or loss of signal etc? Or doe sthat depend on the RX purchased?

Also I know with the 40 mhz systems you could use a futaba transmitter with jr RX as long as the crystals matched, how does this work with 2.4ghz? will any receiver work with any transmitter now?
