500 quid to 10 or 20grand plus. Depends what you have in mind
i have a budget of £500-£600 for mine
why is this in the fw section?
started mine 1 and a half years ago lol and still isnt done cos i don't have alot of time, but i've got around 800 to a grand in parts and theres a few more things to get yet

The average heavyweight costs anywhere from £500 - £4000 to build depending on what weapons you use and materials if build from scratch but its not a good start for your first bot unless you have help and knowledge around
you can build featherweights for around £100 (look at bitza, and its 15th in the UK) but some can cost up to £1000, it all depends on design. mine has cost me somewhere between £375 - £450, and that's just a bot with crushing claws, I would happily spend £1000 on it but I just couldn't justify it right now.
If you want to build a heavyweight, then by all means do it. but its something you need to research loads, have the money to spend and be willing to spend a good year or two building it and working out all the bugs. a feather is better since you can learn from them, they don't take as long to build (my first bot took 5 months worth of weekends, but about 2 months of those were waiting for parts) and don't cost anywhere near as much to build.
You should maybe team up with your cousin/friend (I remember reading it somewhere) on this one and try to use some of the knowledge he has gained to get you started into the featherweights. This is a great resource for knowledge but if you can see the real thing and have someone explain to you how/why it works then that will be a great help too.
To do with cost, at the top end, you can spend as much as you want on any size of machine really, i'm certain there are featherweights out there that cost more than some heavyweights and vice versa but in general the smaller the machine is the minimum you have to spend to get it going is less. Also easier to work on and transport etc.
Master the basics first is I suppose what people here are trying to say.
the best start is to probably build a featherweight ram bot and learn from that then take it from there really :)
