Pneumatics and Hydraulics
I know all these questions have been asked before, but Im building my 3rd fw and I was wondering if someone could give me info about a 2 stage Hydaulic systems for a crusher and pneumatic systems for a flipper/Axe robot. also I was wondering is you could use a double acting cylinder as a singal acting cylinder by adding a spring?
Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
i don't know much about hydraulics but there has been only been a couple of featherweights that have managed to incorporate hydraulics and at great cost. you'll probably need to get your pump and maybe ram machined out of aluminium as most pumps are made from cast iron and weigh a ton!
yes you can use a double acting cylinder as a single acting, i wouldn't bother using a spring and just use a bungee cord to return flipper arm.

Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
also what is the average co2 bottle size and average ram size?
Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
Hydraulics is a really tough build for a feather. In the Netherlands one person has done it, but the power is less than overwhelming. You'd be better off with a powerful linear actuator.
Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
ok thanks we wount use hydraulics, we will make a flipper or a axed robot.
Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
do people use 1 or 2kg bottles? and what size to people have there buffer tank (if they have them)
Re: Pneumatics and Hydraulics
people tend to use 600g painball bottles for feathers :)
