ABS Plastic
Has anyone had any experience of using ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) on their robot?
I had it recommended to me when I mentioned I needed a thin, strong, light, cheap, smooth, impact resistant material. I looked it up on the wikipedia and it sounds like it's the dog's dangly bits.

Plus apparently you can buy sheets of it from places like Homebase and B&Q.
Can anyone vouch for it's performance before I take the plunge?

Re: ABS Plastic
some antweights have used abs printed chassis's but i've never heard of a fw that uses it.

Re: ABS Plastic
its been used way back in the past. The reason it's not used now is because it shatters easily under relatively small combat impacts

Re: ABS Plastic
same with perspex. Basically if you can buy the material in B&Q, don't. Even if it is suitable they will charge you 3 times as much as what it's worth. HDPE, polycarbonate and nylon have all been well proven in the arena so i'd suggest sticking to them :)

Re: ABS Plastic
Yeh have 13mm HDPE as out main armour, guess we'll stick with that. Cheers.
