Hi. Does anyone use a whel transmitter with An independent skid type steering? If so how does it handle? When the wheel turns with no throttle will the robot still turn? I'm assuming using a mixer will do this? If so is there many different types of mixing? Any help would be cool.

yes the robot would still turn like normal by jsut moving the wheel, Its a matter of personal preference to be honest. i personally dont like them, bu thats probbaly because i only normally ever used standasrd stick txs. No reason it wouldnt work :).
One thing though, make sure your wheel tx has 50/50 throttle settings, not 70/30 as 70/30 wouldnt work with any robot escs i know of.
awesome thats cool. what do you mean by 50/50 though? and is a mixer just a mixer or are there different ones that do things differently?

If your transmitter has an internal mixer you will want elevon mixing (all on the right stick, or throttle and wheel in this guess im guessing). Again, a thing of personal choice but vtail mixing is using the elevator and rudder channels (vtails are a type of tails on rc aircraft). If you are using an extrenal mixer either will do as you cna choose which channels you plug them into on the receiver.
50/50 means that when the stick is at rest, it is exactly half way between forward and reverse. 70/30 is great for cars as it provides 70% of the travel (so finer control) to the forward function on the car and only only 30% to the less commonly used reverse. A way to test if your transmitter does this is to put a servo first on the steering channel and put the servo horn exactly in the middle, then put that same servo on the throttle channel and see if it stays in the middle when the throttle lever is let go.
as far as i know, all external mixers do the same thing. Stay away from ccpm mixers as these are for helicopters and do something entirely different. And are also really expensive lol.

sweet cheers dude. i dont think i will be spending a lot of money on the transmitter so i guess if i go for a good name i wont have mixing, which will make things easier?? and as for the 50/50, will this cause me problems or will i just have less slow speed control in reverse? been a great help, cheers man. oh! and how will the 3rd channel work on a wheel transmitter? will it just be a switch? sorry i haven't a clue with things rc. im learning though, it's cool.

I just picked up a Spektrum DX3.0 because we seem to be doing quite a bit of driving on the cars with wheel transmitters.Quote:

The third channel on these can be set to do various functions such as lap timer, gear selector etc. I did notice that you have to press once for on and press again for off so if you're not concentrating then things could go horribly wrong. The set up isn't that intuitive either so it's one of those occassions where reading the manual really helps. The third channel doesn't seem to do a proportional control either so if you have need position control or speed control (spinner) it's not much use.
I think Dave uses a kenny and a seperate controller to operate the disc on 360 and has a seperate receiver in the machine.
Haven't tested out the failsafes either.
The dx3.0 is about 80pounds but you can get the dx3e which is slightly cheaper at about 70pounds.
ahh cool nice one. i was looking at the spectrum 3ch one, was my first choice out of a few. so the 3rd channel wont operate a servo? (sorry if i misunderstood i dont know RC) i planned on using a battle switch or a servo with a switch to run a weapon (spinning drum).
