With our experiance with the mag S28-400s I would advise sticking with the bosch 750s. Other than a weight/size advantage power is about the same unless you want to risk burning them out. They are also not as robust without a lot of modifications. The C40-300 might be better for you. You will have to ask someone who has used these before as we have not but they are heavy.
Hi Mark
I thought the Mag 400 motors were much more powerful than the Bosch units.
How much power do the Bosch motors give out @24volts?
I was told the Mag units were about 4.5 horsepower!
Thanks for your input Mark, I may not bother then.
:)
Magmotor is overly optimistic of the capacity of its motors.
The difference is a tad more power on 24V than a Bosch, for a lot higher pricetag.
But a Bosch 750, with the known upgrades like welding the front plate, magnet retaining setup and capacitators on the brushes does a great job on 36V 75A. More than 75A is just diminishing return on torque/efficiency.
Mario,
Is the magnet retaining set up a relatively simple procedure?
Andy
yes Andy it is
OK, let me ask the questions I shouldve asked in the first place.
What parts do I need to do it and can someone either post on how to do it or show me on Saturday?
Hydra has a bit of a problem with one of the motors sticking occassionally and it seems to be around the brushes/magnets etc.
I dont think the front plate is welded on Hydra as it has some m8 rods clamping it in place which does the same thing so I probably need to take out a motor and have a look if the magnets are retained.
Andy
Lets see...... is it still there?
Yup!

In theroy the S28-400 mag motors do have more power, but they are smaller in size so get hot quickly, without cooling they will overheat if run at power levels much more than a bosch. Dont get me wrong they are good motors for their size and weight but I dont think you would gain any advantage in St Hammer from them. Also stalling these motors is a very bad idea, they will literally last a few seconds without a reasonable current limit, boschs are much more forgiving and for large wheels I suspect they will be stalled quite oftern.
Thanks Mark
I think I will stick with the Bosch units then.
Hope to see you guys at a show soon.
