Stainless steel as armour

Would welcome other builders views on using stainless steel as armour, recommend ? or not ?

we used to use it - but its very heavy especially when using 8mm of the stuff

I have some 1mm sheets, wounder if strong enough against a spinner if fastened onto 1/4 polymer plastic

1mm not thick enough on its own but with a pastic backing maybe have you thought about mild steel? its a bit lighter?

how will you cut, fix etc it?

Bulldog used 3mm s/s in series 5 its tough but heavy, axes go through easily ,so do spinners
much better off using a version of cast nylon or
Ti mounted on rubber isolators, both very light and very tough especially the nylon option but some nylons need to be kept a little damp,to keep their malleable properties, not usually a problem in this country,:lol:

thanks for the input, it was just I had it lying around, the polymer is 1/4 and 1/2 inch plastic, the white chopping board, doesnt shatter like lexan and light.

will probably go the route of the polymer plastic and an outer armour of cold rolled steel mounted on rubber isolators

It will also depend on how you fix the SS to the plastic as any spinners will just rip the SS off the plastic if you dont use a method that spreads the load of the fixing accross the plastic. ie use big washers.
