Charging New Battery Packs
Someone advice please..... weve been trickle charging our new Modelpower battery packs for Push n Shove (8.4v 3700 mah) with our Propeak Supernova charger. It reached 100% but then carried on inputting more amps. When it reached over 4100 amps, I decided to switch it off. Is this normal for a first charge, or are we going to have to keep an eye on it and switch it off manually every time we charge? Would it be safe to let it keep on charging until it (hopefully) switches off automatically?

batteries always have a higher capacity than the actual quoted capacity. My 2.4Ah nicads actually have a capacity of over 2.6Ah. I wouldnt worry about it.

On a trickle charge, the batteries are normally rated for overcharge for some time (days/ weeks) anyway. So you wouldnt do any damage.
It is very difficult to detect charge peak during a trickle charge with NiCD/ NiMH battery chemistries. Because of this, the charger may overcharge the pack for some time. Normally you charge for a set time on a trickle charge.

Thats good news! Thanks Gary and Kane.
