You could replace the battery with an SLA of the same size and voltage.
But you want a faster bot for the same setup ....so
overvolting the 12v motors to 18v might be ok.
So .. 3 off 6v SLAs ( Id recommend 3 off 6v rather than a 12v and a 6v ) giving you 18v.
Then its Nimhs or Nicads.
Note that youll be adding extra stress to all the components in the drive including the batteries and controller.
to be honest with you it was pretty nippy before hand, have to do some thinking
thanks alex

so would 3 of the above be alright, and would that give a total of 12ah or just 4ah? and when wiing them up wouldit go
bat 1 pos-bat2 neg
bat2 pos-bat3 neg
cheers
Your wiring would be correct and give you 4Ah @ 18v.

well now i have to work out what room we have!
on technobots you have to options either Europa AGM (Standby) or Europa Gel (Cyclic) just wondering whats the difference?
alex
standby slas are designed to work in continuous draw applications like alarms where as cyclic batteries are better designed to be cycled over and over.
Both will do you fine in a featherweight but I would look for the cyclic ones. Or better yet you can get some down at maplins and save on postage. They usually have a decent enough range.
