Virus warning
Posted By Roger Plant, Monday 8th May 2006.
My Bigcheeserobot website has been taken over by someone else.
This morning it tried to download a virus called Winfixer to my computer.
The attempt was a very sophisticated copy of the Microsft download system.
Fortunately my Norton AV2006 picked it up and warned me.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT TO BIGCHEESEROBOT.COM
even out of curiosity, unless you are very sure of your antivirus software.
I have effectively stopped trading as the Big Cheese Robot company and will not be renewing the website.
Any future site called Bigcheeserobot will not be under my control.

Has anyone come across anything like this? I keep getting half a dozen prompts to download this, that and the other. Any Ideas?

Kane, I have Netscape, IE, Firefox and Opera - not to mention 3 pop-up stoppers.
Iknow IE is a pain in the ass but I only use it for shortcuts from MSN Messenger.

Why use a popup stopper... both Firefox and the latest verisons of IE have popup blockers built in.
Do you have antivirus software?

I use Windows 2000 Pro, IE6,Microsoft Beta2 antispyware, and Norton AV 2006.
The Norton 2006 has caught all the viruses so far, including Winfix, and I have had no problems. It costs about £25 from Amazon. I keep up-to-date with all the updates from Norton and Microsoft, which are free, and find it all very effective in keeping my computer virus, spyware and worm free.
It also works with MS XP.
Norton 2006 does not work with ME, Win 98 or 98Se.
I know many people slag off MS software including IE6, but if you use them with Norton 2006 and keep up the automatic updates then it all works well.

I run Firefox and AVG as my browser and anti V. Which seems to stop everything. As belt and braces I also run the tea timer option of Spybot. Which monitors for any registry changes and gives me an allow or deny option.

firefox and kaspersky. Kaspersky is ideal as it is able to scan all incoming and outgoing data in real time without causing a detrimental effect to the processing power etc.
