Roaming Robots 2005 Winter Tour
Roboteers,
With the 5 venues booked for this years long awaited 05 Winter Tour, and the planned late August launch fast approaching.
We are putting the final pieces of what has yet again become a large Jig Saw together.
We are working hard on the Competition / Event Structures, Formats, Judging rules & Prize money.
This will again be the biggest Robotic Competition for 2005, with thousands of fans attending last year, we hope that this years tour will keep the spark alive once again, and be a steeping stone to a bigger championship next year.
However, as we are still piecing the final details together, we have decided as we normally do, to get some roboteers input before we set things in stone. What worked well, could have been better etc... to ensure that this years competition exceeds all expectations.
Either post here, or email us at: events@roamingrobots.co.uk with your comments or suggestions.
Thanks
John

What about getting some middleweights along? Ill build a new Blazer, and at the end of the day i only need one other to fight. Other roboteers might be more interested im making a middle if they see them fighting at events, but at the moment its a case of why bother when theres nobody else to fight (the same reason why ive not touched Blazer since last Wicksteed - apart from borrowing stuff out of it!).
I know weve tried to get middles at events before but usually its just been a case of a couple might turn up, but if could RR organise a competition as with the heavys and feathers and offered some sort of prize we might get more than one middle, in the same place, at the same time!
They still have alot to offer, especially for feather builders who want to go bigger but are put off by the current level of robots. Seeing as there arent really any middles on the circuit we have a level playing field to start with.
Just a thought.

Jonno,
What we need is a way of keeping the paying audience buying tickets with memories of Robot Wars fading.
I suggest that a counterfoil from each ticket be placed in a hat and drawn to give 4 lucky people the chance to drive and fight the robot of their choice - with the owners permission of course. There would be 2 fights - one with heavies and one with feathers. The fights would be organised to be mid-way in the session.
These fights would be a great way to pull in the crowds, but would not be very exciting themselves, as the drivers would lack any driving experience and skill.
I am sure that others could refine this basic idea to build audience numbers.

Youre on, Alan. There seems to be several other middles around, too. My Adams project is to build a simple lightweight so that at the very least he can be some sort of opposition to any other lightweights.
