Transmitter modification

I would like a non-linear response to my controls. Would replacing the potentiometers in my transmitter with logarithmic pots work? Has anyone tried this? Is there a commercially available plug in that can do the job?

Replacing the the potentiometers isnt going to work unless you only need a single direction. The replacements would be logarithmic in one direction only starting from one end of the pots travel whereas youre more likely to need a logartithmic response starting from a centre point moving outwards in both directions.

On my transmitter (Futaba Field Force 6) you can set exponential responses on channels 1 to 4 and I would imagine this would be available on most computer transmitters.

If this isnt an option then you can get speed controllers/mixers that offer variable response curves. However, the only ones I personally know of are for heavyweights - whether there are any available/suitable for feathers I dont know.

Getting all technical now Philip since you won the last event :proud: Gyro, Logarithmic pots, sounds like your making this thing into a real competitive robot ;)

Philip, I simply soldered some 2.2k resistors across the steer pot on a SS6. You solder one resistor between the centre slider connection and one track end, the other resistor between the slider and the other track end. This will give you a S shape exponential response. I have a spread sheet where you can play around with the resistor values and a graph shows the response, if you want a copy, Email me.

I would like to put in the resistors and see how it drives. I will happily go with your values. I am just not sure what is meant by the track end. I think that it is the outer legs of the pot, but I want to be sure.

Paul, I put in the resistors and it works well. Marauder is much better behaved.
