Metal armour
Ive been out of the sport for awhile and was wondering what the current rules on metal armour and parts on antweights are. I was also considering building an ant version of the american bot, Nightmare (found on http://www.robotcombat.com/nightmare.htmlwww.robotcombat.com/nightmare.html). What are the current rules on antweight spinners?

Chris that robot is built to the american antweight rules so weighs 454g. Metal armour is allowed once its made in pannels and is no thicker than 1mm

Yep im well aware of of the weight difference Ian. Well im still not sure on the metal armour rules, but best place to have a look is on the RobotWars101.org forum theres a couple of threads in the antweight section about metal armour.

does that mean i could use the ant equivalent of angle iron or mini steel box section etc?

Metal armour
yes you can as that would be chassis but you can only use 1mm for armour plus it cannot be welded.

As most of the antweight committee run spinners, there arent many rules governing spinners, only the armour they hit.
Theres nothing like a fair fight eh?

... and Id love to put the little Ti box that is 0.3Faze against all 3 of em :)

Actually the original rules banned all metal armour and the committee have dispite owning one or two spinners (ok I have 3) voted for metal armour. The thickness rule was introduced to stop everyone building heavily armoured pushers that were indestructable and boring. You have to remember that unlike all other weight classes Ants have a 50% drop of perimeter which gives a great advantage to pusher/lifter type ants. The last two encounters between MilitANT and Antomkia have both gone against the spinner and Antomkia uses a plastic toy body shell for armour. In fact I am so convinced that the rules favour pushers/lifters rather than spinners that my latest design has no spinner

the reason we allowed metal was to stop spinners
Fact
Millitant wont go through 1mm aluminium on the level it will only do damage on an edge
me and Pete proved it when I built a la Machine style Anto for microbotics
it was 0.5mm ally and 2mm poly
Millitant didnt go thou either but when it hit an edge it ripped off the panel.
i think the ants are the least regualted weight catagory and in my opinion the best because i think we allow people to do what they want
the ant rules allow for a good balance and require an understanding of the rules to give a good robot
i personally dont read the rules before build an ant because were very relaxed about safety but we need to be in future
