I need halp with gas boost
on the old rw forum someone was talking about a gas boost for a spinning disk, i no that it works in the same way as do those toy helicopters that you pump up to make the blade rotate but i was wondering how you use the compressed gas (or compressed air)to make a rotary movement.
thanks,
daniel

sorry if this was a little hard to read what i mean to ask is how can you use phnumatics to give a rotary output, eg. co2 turning a wheel.

Using a pneumatic motor of cource.
Handy spot to find them, airtools like drils, anglegrinders etc. If Torque is more important, I would suggest looking in the torquewrenches.
Other tricks that I contemplated, a Terrorhurtz style rack and pinion, combined with a single direction gear(like the backwheel gear on a bicycle)
Or even building along a turbine idea, and using the inner rim of the disk with vanes to get extra push, this idea went into the drain due the enginering difficulties.

It would be technically possible to power a disc or drive using compressed gas but Im not sure its terribly practicle. You would need pretty large gas supplies to store enough gas to power the disc or drive for very long.
I believe the thread on the old forum was talking about using gas as a boost to get an electric motor upto speed faster so as to accelerate disks faster. By forcing gas through the cooling fan of the motor using it as a turbine. This to may be possible but if you look at the fan on a bidirectional motor they tend to just be some plates radiating straight out from the centre this would make a pretty poor turbine. So the efficiency of any such system would be extremely low.
If any body has any ideas on how to quickly accelerate discs over than extremely expensive motors Id be extremely intrested.

Want the ultimate, rather cheap diskmotor, Go ICE.
Internal Combustion Engine.
There are 2 for sale around here.
1 22 hp Suzuki RM125 cc, already lightened and RWd.
1 32 hp Suzuki RM250 cc, also with empied gearbox and stuff, This one was plan C for Tough As Nails, but we never came to it,as the cost for the hydraudrics was to high for our meager means.
Both motors are in parts, so the future owner can learn what he has.
The 125 cc is going for £80
The 250, any offer will be looked into.

Hehe, it would be nice to see those motors in Typhoon...

Mario how much does the 125cc weigh?.
It would be nice to use for a featherweight:)

dafter things have been tried (and sometimes done!)

For the 125 cc, mail Tom, at Codemaster003@hotmail.com
But for a feather.. the motor on its own is about 10 kg...But in place of an Etec....

that would do but i needed 2 the same though
