Featherweight Blueprints - Would this work?

Hi there, I am completely new to building robots but would like to give it a go. Having done some research on where is a good place to begin, I have decided to build a featherweight. I have therefore come up with some very rough blueprints to represent what I plan to make, but would like to ask you all a few questions:

1. Would it work? (and if not, why not)
2. How could it be improved?
3. What kind of armour would I need?
4. What wheels, transmitter and/or receiver would you recommend?

Wheels. Team RCC is using RC wheels from the 1/8 and 1/6 scale models now. Light, good grip, easy to aquire, and strangely enough, very tough.

RX/TX FlySky.

Armor, whatever you use, angle it.

Also I was swaying toward flysky until i read another forum post noting they have no 'failsafe', whatever than means.

But most important of all, do you think what I have proposed will work? :rofl:

If you have access to a lathe then the best recommendation for wheels i have is to make your own hub and screw bike tyre around the outside.

For the RX i use the Spektrum AR610 DSMX 6 Channel Receiver, ill be honest its not the cheapest option - and theres RXs 3 times less which do the job just as well, but since i use a Spektrum TX i just prefer the peace of mind it offers me (and £20 isnt much in the scheme of things)

Transmitter id go for Spektrum DX6i - its the right blend of cost, function, and capacity.

Armour really depends on what you can do. Scoops are best made of metal, preferably a hardened steel - though your chassis can be made of a blend of Ranglebox threaded bar (your welcome Ellis) and HDPE

Only additional i notice is theres no point in an on/off switch - its only likely to get accidentally triggered and the link by regulation serves that function.

Theres also a few tiny things, like the + and - tend to come out the same side of the battery. And the drivetrain is a bit to cramped, but realistically given the stage of design your at its not a problem, just want to make you aware as you go forwards to a more detailed design.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a lathe so might just have to search around for some decent caster/RC wheels or something of the like. Although I will soon have a 3D printer... no idea whether abs or pla plastic will be tough enough for hubs though.

By the sounds of it they seem like very popular tx/rx's in the robot world, so I shall definitely add them to my shopping list.

I don't suppose you know anywhere that cuts HDPE and steel/hardox to order do you? Only I see some roboteers getting ready-cut flatpack armour sent via post, would be a good idea for me seen as I have no experience handling such materials :uhoh:
