Hello Roboteers!

Hello Roboteers! I was a huge, huge fan of the RobotWars series back in the 2000's, me and my sister used to dash home from swim club with a bag of chips under our arm, put on our furry Diotoir hats (made from genuine Diotoir scraps, i think my sisters even had a burn on it!) and watch it religiously right up until the day it sadly ended. Or so i thought, as i stumbled across Battlebots 2015 which led me on a trail to Mr Kane Astons youtube channel (Of Behemoth fame?) of Colchester 2015 and finally here, only to find the RobotWars community alive and well! I'd always dreamt of making a competitive fighting robot as a child, now I'm bigger and uglier (with less hair) i wish to forfil that dream and have a good laugh doing it! I dont have the experience, skills of the knowledge to build anything to the same standard as the robots at Colchester, but ive got the dream and ive got the foolhardy spirit to build something fun and interesting that shall hopefully bring entertainment to the roboteering crowds. Bash or be Bashed i say!

Will post pics and vids of my first build as and when it happens over crimbo, as my job is seasonal so ive got a 3 month holiday! :D

My I suggest that you make your first robot a featherweight (30 lbs)?

sure :) was planning on starting small! Just a quick questions, what is an esc?

ESC = Electronic Speed Controller; you need one for each motor in the bot. If you are thinking of building a featherweight, the gold standard is the TX85A available from Ellis at Wranglebox: http://ranglebox.com/product/botbitz...2-brushed-esc/

Aaah, i knew of speed controllers but i just wasnt sure of the correct terminology! ok thanks Nick, ill check it out! Have an idea in mind will start a build diary soon! :D

Cheapest source of gearmotors is cordless drills. You can often get these free from friends or cheaply at your local boot fair because once the battery packs stop holding their charge people discard them or sell them off. If buying one in a boot fair question the seller about the battery if is more than 3 or 4 quid. There is lots of online stuff about how to convert a cordless drill for robot use.

I think ive already watched a couple of good videos on that, its a great idea!
