Best wheels ?
hi all been looking at wheels and tyres for what seems like forever and still unsure, looking to build my first heavy will be 2 wheel drive at rear, front mounted axe and hopefully some kind of grabbing jaws
2x high power scooter motors, 2 in consideration 750w and 100w both 36v, similar too tomahawks motors
wheels gearing should not be a problem as i am planning to use t8f chain which is used on small mopeds and large electric scooters etc has a good load capacity for size of around 670 lbs depending on grade.
here in lies the problem,
go kart wheels - wide lots of grip, heavy and requires lots of work to fit
10 inch faom filled barrow wheel - easy to fit and cheap, narrow tread ,plastic hub weak large od
heavy grade castors - cheap , strong, easy to fit, narrow tread
any ideas greatly welcome
thanks adam

Re: Best wheels ?
We make ours from ali bar and have Vulcalon bonded on, just means you can have whatever diameter and width of tyre you want.

Re: Best wheels ?
They all have their merits, I personally like kart wheels as they give a ton of grip, I shoved 4wd robots with my kart wheels but they are difficult to build into a design simply due to the size

Re: Best wheels ?
I'd get some strong castors like these:

And then just double them up to increase the tread width. Cheap, light, strong, grippy and can't be punctured.

Re: Best wheels ?
while this thread is here i might as well ask what do everyone think is the best tyre material for grip, egc- rubber, polyeurathane ? want to get the grippiest available and must have bearings fitted.

Re: Best wheels ?
found some nice trolley wheels 260mm foam filled high grip and cheap £12 for 2
next question done some maths based on the motor rpm etc
max speed at proposed gearing is 13.56 mph with no losses
too quick or about wright ?????????????????????????????

Re: Best wheels ?
What motors, controllers, batteries are you using?

Re: Best wheels ?
1000 watt scooter motors
not sure on batts yet depends on available space and funds
probably ncc70

Re: Best wheels ?
I would gear abit lower, 4QDs aren't the smoothest of controllers, if its too fast you will struggle to drive it.

Re: Best wheels ?
would these 9amp 12volt batteries be ok, as they are quite light at 2.5kg each
