Solder?

Does anyone have advice on choosing the right kind of solder?

I thought solder was either Leaded or Lead Free but it seems there is way more to it than that.

What do most of you use? I found some 1mm lead based stuff at uni which was great as it meant I didn't have to use much on big joints but I don't know the specifics of it.

It's likely to be 60/40 lead solder. Basically it means that it has 60% tin and 40% lead. Common electrical solder

The lead free stuff is crap. Sadly the EU stopped the sale of the leaded stuff but you can still buy it on ebay.

Got ourselves some 1mm 60/40 lead based stuff off ebay... 500g should last us an age

And yeah, the Lead Free is rubbish, just wont bloody melt or flow right
