Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
We have received many votes but results will not be announced until the awards ceremony to be hosted by Robo Challenge.
Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
I have been wondering why the FRA seem to have taken the decision not to include Roaming Robots in the FRA Awards process.
RoboChallenge and Robots Live in conjunction with the FRA have arranged the categories. It seems very strange to me that the FRA would appear to snub one of its three event organisors, who up until this year has organised the UK Championship every year since Robot Wars?
Why are the Heavyweight Awards not being presented at an event where Heavyweights are competing? This could have been this weekend in Gloucester.

Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
My understanding is that its down to the EOs that ran the championships, hence why it's us and not RR, as we have never been involved in the process in previous years.
Its being done at the Robo Challenge event to tie in with the featherweights as we don't have another large event this year, and RR are doing their own awards, that were announced before the FRA ones.
Thats my understanding of it all, i'm sure Kane will clarify it.
Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
Spot on Alan.
I think we've all been pretty busy during 2012 so hopefully going forward we can all be more organised for 2013 to make it the best year yet :D
Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
We (as Robo Challenge) decided we wanted to do an awards for the fw but in conjunction with the FRA so I spoke to Kane to arrange it. We felt this neccisary to award roboteers for their hard work and commitment through out the year. I didnt want it to be a Robo Challenge awards as it would have little meaning if every organiser had their own awards, so it would have to be an FRA awards open for all FRA members, it just so happens the fw uk champs was the only full combat or serious event for fw in which to judge them. We are organising a special weekend event to give out the awards as a special occasion whilst also giving teams the chance to use their machines. I can only presume Robots Live have done the same in conjunction with the FRA. The reason it hasn't been done previously (in our case) is due to lack of time. Why RR have not contacted the FRA previously To organise such an awards only jonno can say. The current awards was started by our RC initiative.
As this is a special event which includes the FRA awards we felt it best to invite those organising the hw awards to present them at the same time so only one fra awards ceremony was required. Rather than having to go to separate events for the same awards. Our weekend event is open to all FRA member and is not targeted at fw specifically how hw can't fight at our workshop
Re: FRA Heavyweight Awards 2012
No idea how long the RR end of year awards have been going for,but it must be 4 or 5 years, if my memory serves me right, without the FRA having an end of year award.
No problem with having an official awards ceremony, maybe at a Christmas party? but I still feel that all 3 EO's should have been consulted and had their input into the nominated categories. After all surely the awards are about the year and not just the UK Champs event? And I accept that Robo Challenge are in the best position to judge the Featherweight category, but at the same time there are machines that for whatever reason decided not to attend or could not attend the UK Champs.
