Building progress of-"untitled robot
Hello guys,
I am new to this forum but have little/some experience in the field of robotics. I also built a quadcopter which was left incomplete because I couldnt test it. {my Tx and Rx didnt bind---faulty chinese stuff(flysky)}.
Now----------
This is my new robot which is yet to be named. I wanted to build a robot exactly like the biohazard because in my opinion- NO ONE can defeat it
I have used thick(5mm) plastic(acrylic) sheet to build the body. its very tough. Actually I am making this for a inter-school robotics competition.
Rules specify that I can't exceed 1ftx1ftx1ft dimensions no matter what the weight is.I am using these motors-

ITS datasheet----- https://c10645061.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.co...motorspecs.pdf
As I dont know how to use chains and all/ Never used it/ Its also costly-- I am using a 4 wheel drive.

ONE MOTOR is still to be attached.. You see how weak I am in building. The problem was basically my experience and funds :(

This is the flipper or the motor which will be the actuator for the biohazard like four bar lifter.

MORE close picture. It has a good torque but not as good as AMPFLOW or MAGNUM motors. It was for 5$
So basically I am confused with whare to place it and will my design of plastic be strong enough to lift another robot? where will the wedge be,etc, etc.
Please help me guys.

One more pic. Please help me,
Actually I am gonna use the servo and micro switch method as a tutorial on youtube by 'MATSURD' to control my motors and save the cost of motor controller; preferably the sabertooth 2x5 RC.
Thanks in advance,
Rahul
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
WHat is this competition? Acrylic is not the best plastic for robots- lexan is much better. For a robot that small you don't need bike chain what you've got seems fine although the lifter may be underpowered if there is no weight limit?
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Welcome to the forum :D
As max said, so long as you are planning to enter it into the featherweight competition, that acrylic wont cut it... sorry. If you like the clear look then go for Polycarbonate (Or lexan to some) otherwise you can use HDPE.
This is my first year in competition and my first machine was a mix of 10 and 20mm HDPE but it withstood, mostly, hits from possibly the most destructive spinner in the uk: NST.
Most of us get it from here... http://www.directplasticsonline.co.uk/
Note- Don't make your base out of Nylon 66 like I did, NST shattered it with a single hit so I spent the rest of the fight with the robot dragging on the ground... not so good!
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Thanks :) Actually I went to buy polycarbonate from a huge 'plastic market' near my house but they said they cant cut it that small(2ftx2ft) as I required; so I couldnt purchase.

This is a interschool competition so there's no danger of breaking. almost every team is getting wired robot and the rule states that I just have to push the other robot opponent out of the field (4ftx4ft field).
So do you think my idea is good enough?
I have updated the robot with pretty big sized wheels 7cm radius.
Also, updated the weapon.
here are some pics.

Is it fine? Do you have plans for making a simple robot with stuff I have?
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Going by those very sparse rules then Acrylic should be ok but watch out for axes/hammer bots.
I cant see any issues with the design in general. Given there are no weight or weapon limits you are free to do almost anything!
As the arena is so small its most likely to be a pushing war so make sure that your lifters front edge is as low as possible. I would personally say that the front lifting edge should be the same width as the whole robot so that no one can get in and lift you up unless you go round the sides but its up to you.
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Thanks :) I will keep that in mind; Actually I cant exceed 1ftx1ft limit. My width is already 1ft and length too.
So, how should I place the wedge?
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Where did you get the wheels?
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
Then you are going to struggled but just follow Biohazards design the only difference would be to widen the lifting edge width ways up to the 1' limit.
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
These are Pitsco Tetrix's wheels(big). I suppose they are for 19$/ wheel.
Hmm.everything is limited to me except weight. So, yup i will try and copy biohazard's design. But do you have any idea about how to put the metal plates as wedges in front?
Re: Building progress of-"untitled robot
well, 5mm acrylic isn't really suitable to tap or screw too so maybe use alu/steel brackets and bolt the plate on like that?
