Hi all,
I just wanted to know how many Argos drill batteries you need to run a featherweight robot running on Argos drill motors. It would be a simple wedge/rambot. Also would 15 amp microswitches be able to handle drill motors overvolted to 24v?

Hi all,

Overvolted by how much? 18 to 24 or less to 24?
I fear 15A microswitches won't hold. Better option is to use the £5 auto-relais, any reasonable car-part shop has switching relais that can handle 30A easely. (standard mod for the elctronizes too)
i meant overvolt 12v drill motors to 24v, would 15amp microswitches handle 12v drill motors?
i would only go to 18v at the most, their only cheap motors and after i run mine at 18v for 3 mins, they are fairly hot
If this is your first robot I would suggest you keep things as standard as possible, Most fights are for three minutes I would think the batteries with the drill would be OK for that duration. I would keep the motor and battery standard to start with it is cheaper and easier.
the control of a robot using just relays or micro switches, this can be done as a first time robot and can prove quite reliable (if you keep the electrics standard) you loose some subtlety in the control. the things you can do to help this is to keep the speed of the robot reasonably slow Like Tron. and make the robot quite wide, the turning moment is larger and this slows the rate of turn and so it becomes more controllable.
most of all make it interesting to look at, see what's out there and make it different to the others.
I don't know if your a Treky make the shape of a Klingon Bird Of Prey.
Dr Who fan make a Tardis
Car fan make a Jag
you get the Idea the chances of a drill motor robot winning anything is not high, so have some fun with it that way you win every time you put the robot in the arena.
This is not my first robot, i have already built invictus which is a drum spinner and am building trax a tracked robot but i am going to make a cheap robot quickly so i can enter the event in maidstone so i can finnally get to an event!
unless your beauty 2 which could spend money on a massive weapon and armour :lol:Quote:
