hey im looking for a pair of motors that would work in a heavyweight robot, second hand is good, third hand is better, just aslong as it would get something mooving, can be un geared or geared.
i am (as always) looking for fairly cheap stuff.

Overvolting could help the 500W motors.

if i pump 36v into the 24v 500watt scooter motors, could i get a workable drive system?

I'm not sure about the 24V scooter motors but I've known 36v and 48V scooters to hit 20mph with well over 100kg of rider and scooter. Take the fact that you have two motors (twice the torque) and could easily gear it down to a more controllable speed (and gain even more torque) it should happily move a heavyweight or two without too much worry.

As for motors, I really wanted to try pulling apart a corded drill and using that as a motor but the only one easily avaliable (without buying one) was a very expensive bosch 750W drill. It would also need some humongous sla's because they're series wound.
I have a set of 4 400w (if i remember right) 24v wheelchair motors that have had the gearboxes removed. Shaft output on them is a worm for a worm gear. Don't ask me the output speed as I couldn't tell you but you could work it out from a few experiments I'm sure. If they are any use to you I'd be happy to let them go for very little. I won't be in Edinburgh to post them for a couple weeks though as I'm offshore next week. Let me know if you're interested.

A series wound 240VAC motor of 750W can achive maybe 250W on 36V, and as the motor is ment for short burst of 8.5A it will overheat easely.Quote:

Maybe an option to search for el cheapo drills of 110VAC (still available in the US) But I won't recommend it for RW use.
