500g? Car parts might be a bit too much then, I'm trying to think if any motorcycles will have something smaller you could use... bear with me...

This is the sort of thing I have come across at times, just wish it was a little smaller! Sometimes I think a heavyweight would be easier!!!

Something like this might be hackable also

On a related topic, what belt cross sections do people use for FW spinners? I was thinking 10x8mm, could maybe squeeze up to 13x8 but Part of me thinks the pulley radius is too small for that cross section.

The lawnmower piece looks like it might do the job, would you replace the spring with a threaded bar to make it more... 'manly'?

Been trawling the parts catalogue too, seem bikes don't use belts, but have you seen the wheel tug/aligner/things?

perhaps not the most elegant solution, but they can be had (or made) cheaper than those, just a shame that it makes the actual mounting a tad more awkward.

Just while I'm thinking, single speed bikes have tensioner parts for chain slack, I doubt they'd be tough enough, but if you can make your own beefier ones it might do the trick?
