Thread: 90 degree gearbox

  1. #1
Can anyone recommend some kind of 90 degree gearbox to fit a featherweight spinner? Weapon motor is a Turnigy Rotomax 50cc, preferable ratio is somewhere between 2:1 and 3:1. Or will it have to be a custom job?

I've recently designed a right angle gearbox using bevel gears for my featherweight horizontal spinner which seems to work fine. It was a custom job, using a pair of 2:1 bevel gears and keying a timing pulley to the output shaft so it turns with the gear (from beltingonline). Gearbox body was milled from aluminium and the gears/shaft were keyed.

Do you have any more detail on the bevel gears you used? I'm unsure as to what size would be appropriate.

Think it was this or something similar. I would say use spiral bevel gears if you can though as they will be smoother and result in less loss through heat/friction from the gears hitting each other.
