Thread: Do Beetleweight follow these rules?

Those rules are written more for arenas that aren't designed to take full combat spinners. If a 'spinning' weapon doesn't exceed two of those three criteria it can probably be viewed as a fast electric lifter/hitter than a spinner, though the final call always rests with the EO.

The arenas that beetleweights fight in currently in the UK are all designed for full combat, so there are no restrictions (yet!) on the speed and weight of spinning weapons.

And not quite Harry. Exceeding two of the specified figures rather than the actual rules themselves would require approval. So, for example, a spinning mass bigger than 500mm and going faster than 500RPM would need approval even if it weighed less than 20% of the robot's total weight

In effect yes, this is to try and make sure that machine don't exceed safe limits for the arenas. it is possible to shatter polycarbonate if you hit it hard enough and given some of the chunks that can be ripped off these days by the best spinners that rule combination is in place to help prevent that.

I'll say it again; these rules are only for Class 3 arenas or lower. As you mentioned Dave, the rules limit the energy in the weapon and prevent shrapnel and debris from exiting the arena, as a Class 3 arena generally has a net/fabric roof and insufficient thicknesses of polycarb for full spinning weapons.

Both beetleweight arenas regularly used (Kinematic Events and David Weston's) are protected entirely by polycarb of an appropriate thickness, allowing beetleweight spinners to run without the restrictions required for Class 3 or lower arenas.

I think they do have to be pre-approved by the EOs basically as a clause that says any unsafe spinners can be refused entry if they're not safe in the arena. That very rarely happens however, the beetleweight arenas can contain anything you'd be able to reasonably fit within 1.5kg. Most if not all spinners are just approved because they're safe in the arena, but like Jamie says it definitely applies to the lower classified arenas more than the class 1 and 2s.
