    With its rear pointed at Tengu, the robot previously known as Son of Ripper charges backwards across the arena, eager to avenge its loss to the Doomforall spinner way back in C&B2! With a keenness to avoid that beefed-up rear end, Tengu spins away from Gehenna and tries to strike the rear corners, and achieves with efficiency! CRASH!!! The box rush doesn't quite cut it as Gehenna is reflected, and both robots go flying! There's a dent in the armour, but nothing major... yet. Tengu moves back to mid-arena, not willing to give Gehenna any control here. Like a freight train, that damned Gehenna charges back into the fray and flings itself into Tengu's path! CRAAASH!!! This time Andy managed to get the hit aimed where he wanted, directly onto the HDPE, which is also dented but the blow doesn't send Gehenna far back this time! Tengu however flies backwards, and is there a noticeable delay in Tengu's spin-up time now? Whatever the case, he's spinning up again and not giving Andy a second for an opening! But Gehenna wants it, damn it! For the third time Gehenna flings itself into Tengu, and with that CRASH, Tengu finds itself near the wall, though thankfully not up against it! Gehenna is also flung backwards, but comes back in quickly. Tengu tries to get away from the wall, and just manages to do so before Gehenna connects... but with the slower ring speed, the hit isn't quite as spectacular as it was the first few times, and Gehenna is able to stay near Tengu! And with that, Gehenna spins around! Tengu moves away from the wall (and Gehenna) again, and tries to spin up without interference... but he gets interfered, oh yes! Gehenna is able to intercept Tengu and halt the ring! Well, that's half the task, Mr. J! And he seems to know it too because Gehenna tries to push further under Tengu, but those foam skirts make the chore a difficult one, and meanwhile Tengu is trying to drive off the wedge! Eventually Gehenna has his say though, as he pushes Tengu into the wall! Now that he's able to gain some purchase, Gehenna eventually digs its way fully under the spinning mchine and with a thrust, pins it sideways against the wall! Looks like the Holt machine is in trouble! Gehenna backs off, as Tengu is on its side against the wall, and patiently waits for Tengu to push itself off the wall. Tengu does... and Gehenna pushes it back onto the wall, but due to the way Tengu pushed itself off the wall, it threw itself the other way and now Gehenna has it the other way! Now Tengu's completely trapped, with no wheels on the ground and the arm flailing about as it desperately tries to find SOME way of getting off the wall! But it's not happening! What a totally anti-climactic way to say goodbye to a veteran robot! The Watcher waddles over and, displaying some unusual modesty, quickly gets his count-out out of the way to spare Tengu any further humiliation.

    Not QUITE content, Gehenna suddenly rams into Tengu and shoves it off the wall! Tengu falls onto its back, but rights itself quickly! What's this, then?! Gehenna moves back to center arena as the house robots, not impressed with all the mercy, move in on Tengu. Asterix tackles Tengu, but has its forks bent a little from impact! It is then that Gehenna makes its move - tackling underneath the robotic gaul, and flipping it right over... on top of the spinning bumper in the corner, and out! What a flip!!!


    CEASE!


    The power of Tengu? It was all a myth! Gehenna 2 damns another victim and will be raising hell in the Final!

    Oh my, this looks like an uphill battle for the famed veteran! Wedge Devo nervously charges backwards, as the devastating ring of S.O.T.A.R. (v2!) springs instantly to life! A second of spin-up time is hard for anyone stop, and Steve has already failed as S.O.T.A.R. is making a beeline for his robot! CRASH!!! Instantly, the rear skirt has been bent up and gouged, spinning both robots away! Wedge Devo briefly passes over the slots... Robotnik, Sonic, Sonic. Bugger. Not like Tracy is going to give Steve a chance to get to slow that ring down and use those hazards, as S.O.T.A.R. is already back up to speed! Roaring as only a Scotsman would, Wedge's driver flings him rear-first into the whirling vortex of Tracy's spinner! CRASH!! Now the skirt is gone completely!! Wedge of the Devo variety is twirled about, and lands on the slots again... Tails, Sonic, Robotnik. Well, it's just not the luck Steve wants today. To make things worse, S.O.T.A.R. has recovered first and is gunning it towards Wedge Devo! Steve can't turn Wedge around quick enough before S.O.T.A.R. is upon him! CRASH!!! Now one of the side semi-spheres has been torn into! That has the effect of flinging Wedge Devo across the arena, and he nearly gets scalped by the arena bumper! S.O.T.A.R. is now the one to bounce over the slots... Robotnik, Tails, Robotnik. I guess the hazards just want a break, don't they? Even the house robots seem a little antsy; it's like watching a hungry lion corner a wild gazelle!

    Tracy notes that Wedge Devo is near the corner and isn't keen on getting bounced into the wall, so S.O.T.A.R. waits for Wedge Devo to make a move. Wedge seems flummoxed from the previous three hits; all that knocking about might have did something to the internals! Regardless, Steve won't win by just sitting there, so Wedge moves its exhausted frame to attack S.O.T.A.R. again... who responds in like kind! CRASH!!! It looks like Tracy meant to take out Wedge Devo's tires with the undercutter blade, but instead snagged the edge of one of the side skirts and slashed it away! S.O.T.A.R. gets knocked over the slots again... Sonic, Tails, Sonic. Fourth time this match the slots have been activated, and they just don't want to get stronger, huh? They must really have it in for both bots! Wedge Devo wastes no time and, with seemingly renewed vigour, hauls his battered behind into S.O.T.A.R. again! CRASH!! More sparks, more damage, and now Wedge Devo is missing the other side skirt! But finally, finally it had the effect Steve wanted - the hit was so powerful that S.O.T.A.R. bounced all the way into the side wall, and into the spring, which conveniently sends S.O.T.A.R. right back into Wedge Devo! Steve quickly turns his robot about, and now it's a party! FLIP!! S.O.T.A.R. is popped up like a coin, and lands... only back onto the flipper and is quickly tossed again! And this time, right into the wall, precisely what Tracy didn't want!! Thanks to S.O.T.A.R.'s flat-surface ring, it ends up being perfectly balanced on the ring. Now S.O.T.A.R. tries to rev itself up, but only succeeds in revving its own body up!! It's going incredibly fast, and Wedge Devo waits for some imbalance to tip S.O.T.A.R. back onto its wheels... but no such aid comes! S.O.T.A.R. is stuck like Tengu was in its last fight, and Wedge Devo has added another death spinner to his KO list as The Watcher trundles over and lays the count-out for the once mighty S.O.T.A.R.!!!

    S.O.T.A.R. must stand for Sit On This And Rest, because that's definitely what it did! Wedge Devolution lives to flip another day and ends up in the Grand Final in one battered, but whole, package!

    Hello, Fighting Robots Association. Yeah, it's been a long time.

    I am planning to start Crash & Burn 6. Yes, you heard that right. However, it's going to be a smaller affair, likely smaller than the first C&BT, which had 64 entries. The reason for the tournament series being smaller is not because of the lack of activity, but because I... kind of? have a life outside there and I would rather not get bogged down by a gigantic 128 bot tournament. However, I am using Crash & Burn as an excuse to try and get my interest back into real-life building. The points system on Advanced Robot Combat is still my favourite alongside the FRA system, but ARC does not give me the same itch to build a real bot as the FRA fights did. I've been missing that, and I want that back. :V

    Now, my Ruination series of tournaments on ARC will continue as planned, so if you're into a points system with the option for more radical designs, you should check that out. Crash & Burn, however, will still utilize the good ol' realistic stat system that FRA has come to embrace.

    If, IF you are interested, put your name and some robots down (with the FRA Fanfic stat system and within the newest set of Robot Wars rules) and I will go over them.

    Expect sign-ups for Crash & Burn 6 to open soon. Don't worry, I won't ban you from it if you're simply annoying. I will, however, ban robots that are illegal or just plain stupid. We've done this before, so expect the same type of stat hounding as before.

    Eh, it was probably foolish to even expect tactics after this long for a break. Therefore, I'll finish this up quickly. But with DETAIL!

    Annihilator Final
    Revolver Ocelot vs. Flick of the Wrist vs. Mobile Failure 2.5 vs. Black Panther vs. Gehenna 2 vs. Wedge Devolution

    Hailing from the United States of America is a lean, mean, fighting machine named Revolver Ocelot, affectionally named after the Metal Gear character. It has decent 4-wheel-drive and a hefty 15kg spinning bar at the front, capable to putting out 50 kilojoules. That's more than Typhoon 2 could put out, you betcha. 7mm G5 Titanium is nice as well but could fall prey to the heavier spinners, and that rear wedge doesn't work inverted.
    Mini-Tourn History:None

    Blazing into its first Mini-Tournament is Martijn Benschop's rammer, Flick of the Wrist. It's shaped like Robot Wars veteran Tornado, but it's a lot faster overall at 22mph. It also has 7mm titanium, B42-500 MagMotors with some decent power, and a pair of lifting forks at the front, which can be held up while ramming to spear opponents. But his manoeuvrability won't be the best...
    Mini-Tourn History: None

    Mobile Failure 2.5 is anything but! Perhaps the name refers to its opponents' state post-match. Tracy Farber's robot has some decent armour backed up with a hinged front wedge, side skirts, and rear scoop, and a hugely powerful pneumatic axe. Nothing to write home about, really, it's a good all-rounder.
    Mini-Tourn History:
    MT4: Got knocked out in Round 2 by Empty Inside.

    Black Panther is on the prowl with its scoopy flipper and decently-powerful axe. An interesting feature is the 3cm of titanium foam behind the frontal 7mm Titanium armour, serving as a mesh for opponents to lodge their weapons in and get stuck. He's mildly nippy at 22mph, but he won't push worth a darn.
    Mini-Tourn History: None

    Formerly Son of Ripper, the famed Gehenna 2 rolls in with some of the toughest body armour of the Final with 6mm Ti/V alloy comprising the shell. This damned fool has 2x A28-400 Ampflow motor running the 2-wheel-drive, and has two weapons: a front front-hinged flipper ala Firestorm, and a rear spinning drum, reminiscent of RW6 champion Tornado. When it all comes down to it, it's a jack-of-all-trades, just like Mobile Failure.
    Mini-Tourn History: None

    Possibly the eldest bot in the entire mini-tournament, Wedge Devolution is still a newbie to the Mini-Tourn. A Chaos 2-inspired machine with a flipper that can comfortably flip up to a tonne, 4mm Hardox armour, and LEM130 4WD, with skirting pretty much everywhere except the front, which has a front plate to aid the flipper in getting under adversaries. Semi-spheres on the side stop him from getting beached as well. But you know as well as I do that all pneumatic flippers run out of power eventually...

    Gentlemen... it's on!!!

    We find Revolver Ocelot already spinning up his blade, only to get a rude welcome from Heat C finalist Wedge Devolution as the Scottish vet quickly stops the blade, earning a very minor scuff to the front plate! Gehenna 2, about to follow, seems to think Wedge Devo has things under control, as he tackles a different opponent - Mobile Failure 2.5! So does that mean Black Panther and Flick of the Wrist have a go at each other? Black Panther seems to think so, because he guns it after the Dutch Tornado-a-like, but Martijn's like "nah, sorry bro" as he also attacks Mobile Failure, and Tracy is subjected to a double dose of bullying from the European bots! Desperate to save his fellow axebot, Mr. Holt directs his machine towards the back end of Flick of the Wrist, but Martijn is keeping tabs on the Black Panther's progress, and does a swift little manoeuvre that sends him over the front edge of Black Panther as Alex quickly tries to axe him, and finds air instead! But the Flick distraction is all Gehenna needed, and Mobile Failure is finding its world somewhat lopsided, and then VERY lopsided, as Gehenna's flipper opens and turns the Canadian bot over! Mobile Failure tries to right itself, but finds Revolver Ocelot flicked on top of it as Wedge Devo comes back into the fray, now trying to herd both of the robots to where the arena bumper is!

    As this is going on, Black Panther and Flick of the Wrist are indeed having a spat with the other, as Martijn does his best to try and avoid the front of Black Panther. Unfortunately for Martijn, the plucky axebot is more than able to keep up with the red brick and finally, with a nice WHACK, Alex lands Black Panther's axe directly into Flick of the Wrist's top panel! And believe you me, that panel puncture is massive! Razer himself couldn't have broken through more directly or cleanly! The problem? Flick of the Wrist is completely fine, or seems to be! Black Panther possibly missed the vitals, perhaps? Well whatever the case, Flick now uses the fact that Black Panther's axe is stuck in the armour, to drive Black Panther all the way across the arena and into the waiting jaws of Rorschach, who's seen their true faces and doesn't give a damn. Down comes the crushing arm, right over top of Black Panther's body and into Black Panther's front convex wedge! But what's underneath the front armour is 3cm of titanium foam and as Rorschach's crushing beak sinks in deeper, it's becoming apparent that, like Flick, Black Panther is working just fine! And finally, he pulls the axe free! But he can't go anywhere since Rorschach is chewing on him, so... WHACK! Black Panther gives Flick another shot as Martijn backs his machine off, and manages to hit one of the forks, though not really damaging it. Finally, after some finagling, Rorschach seems bored and lets Panther of the Black variety skitter off to prowl another fight.

    Wedge Devo's attempts to shove two robots towards the arena bumper, meanwhile, have not quite come to pass, as Mobile Failure is trying to shunt Revolver Ocelot off of it using the axe, and every time she does, it jolts them a little further off-course from the bumper... and Gehenna violently intrudes! From the side, Gehenna slides in under the Mobile Failure and pushes it away, hoisting Revolver Ocelot away from Mobile Failure in the process! Grateful for the opportunity, Josh revs up the blade on Revolver Ocelot as Wedge Devolution now gangs up on Mobile Failure, and now the flustered Canadian has three angry robots on her case, and her own is on its back! As Mobile Failure tries to self-right out of this situation, in comes the American spinner from Mobile Failure's other side and with a great CRASH!!!, snags a corner and mashes Mobile Failure against the wall, the corner only taking a minor dent but still surely rattling the Failure's innards about! Gehenna wheels about as Wedge Devo tosses the Canadian robot over, and now sends its little drum to work! 5kJ of energy is still enough to knock Mobile Failure around a bit, and though the drum doesn't really do much to the 4mm Ti/V alloy, it's proving to be a great annoyance to Tracy, who cannot get her robot to self-right! Steve seems to want to take matters into his own... er, wedge, and starts shoving Mobile Failure towards the arena bumper, but finds his progress halted by an unusually eager Revolver Ocelot! Another great CRASH!!! later and Mobile Failure is now missing its front wedge! It may be made of tough material, but armour's only as good as what holds it on, and Ocelot has proved that!

    Wedge Devolution is just about to make good on his threat to throw Mobile Failure to the arena bumper, which is now alarmingly close, when Black Panther suddenly slams in from the side and starts smacking the everloving peat out of Steve's flipper! WHACK! Dent! WHACK! Hole! WHACK! Deeper hole! But someone's not going to let Black Panther get away with that, and with a storm of wheels Flick of the Wrist reasserts his position as the hunter by slamming in turn into the back of Black Panther and knocking him out of the way of Wedge Devolution! Gehenna gets on Black Panther's case as well, as Wedge Devo shakes away the cobwebs... and finds his quarry has escaped! Not for long, however, as Revolver Ocelot is keeping Mobile Failure pegged in there with another massive CRASH!!!, grabbing the previously damaged corner and spinning Mobile Failure back into Wedge Devolution's flipping plate! And over Mobile Failure goes! And... there's no evidence of self-righting! What has happened? Black Panther, Gehenna, and Flick of the Wrist have all started assaulting one another, but it becomes evident to Steve, Josh, and especially Tracy that the power to Mobile Failure's axe has been lost. The tires are spinning, but the weapon is gone! Figuring his job is done, Josh drives Revolver Ocelot out to mid-arena as The Watcher, our non-beloved referee, hauls himself over to count out the C&B4 runner-up, as Tracy's run in the mini-tournament comes to a sudden and most horrifying end!

    Welp, Mobile Failure bit the dust last time. Who's next?

    Time for Round 2 of the Annihilator Final!

    Without a fellow axe to fight beside, Black Panther seems a bit forlorn out there, but nonetheless zooms out and surveys the situation. Revolver Ocelot, the only real spinner in the fight, stays put, also surveying. The rest of the bots zoom out like drag racers, ready for more! Wedge Devolution locks horns with Gehenna 2, but quickly finds the Shropshire flipper more than he bargained for! With a subtle flick, Gehenna overturns Wedge Devo, not at all SoRry! It seems there is new prey to be had this match, and both Black Panther and Revolver Ocelot streak out towards Wedge Devo, who seems to be trying to self-right and finally does so! Ocelot tries to get there before Wedge can am-scray, but a sudden clanging at his rear means Flick of the Wrist is trying to shove him forcibly into the melee. Angered, Josh turns his bot around and SMASH!! One of Flick's forks is completely bent up, and he's sent flying, as is Revolver Ocelot... straight onto Gehenna's flipper! Flip! Ocelot's overturned! Now as an overcutter, Ocelot won't have the same ability to hit those pesky wedges as before! But it seems Ocelot's already left his mark - Flick only has one fork that he can wedge with; the other one is bent aside, unable to touch the ground! Black Panther, eager for some payback for last match, makes a path towards the Dutch robot... but is casually flicked over by a righted Wedge Devo! Grateful for the interruption, Flick barrels into Black Panther and carries it towards the spinning bumper...

    ...or would have, if Gehenna wasn't always constantly interfering, and interfere he does! Sliding swiftly under the Dutch rammer, pop goes the flipper and Flick of the Wrist is turned onto its head! Now its other fork can hit the ground, but the unbent fork cannot! Furthermore, the one actually pressing against the ground cannot wedge properly anyway - Flick is basically a bumper car at this point! Oh, and here comes Josh to finish him off? CRASH!!! No sir! Gehenna left itself wide open, and Ocelot caught the armour near the top of Gehenna and spun him away! It didn't do much damage thanks to the Ti/V alloy armour, but it did take a bit of the wind out of Andy's sails. Trying to capitalize, Flick tries to shove Gehenna towards the bumper, but Gehenna merely throws him aside! It's not a full flip due to Flick being only slightly on the wedge, but it does open up Gehenna to another hit from Ocelot! CRASH!!! With the flipper open, too! Gehenna is bounced dangerously near the bumper, but thankfully is spared! Ocelot gets bounced away... right into a waiting Wedge Devo's flipper! Toss! Ocelot's right-side-up again! But not for long, as Steve-O begins a series of chained flips that juggle Ocelot towards an arena wall! Too bad we don't have OOTAs in this box, Steve! Realizing this, Wedge tries to stack Ocelot against the wall, but he's not having the best luck and Ocelot falls away rather quickly, though he's upside-down again. Wedge instead herds Ocelot to Teresa's corner, and suddenly there is a howl of curses from the control booth. Did Teresa take his Mass Effect collection or something?

    As the puncher of Teresa repeatedly slams into Ocelot, much to Josh's extreme chagrin, we are about to witness a dying robot, as Black Panther has caught up with the proceedings and is currently mashing Flick of the Wrist a new one! Gehenna is joining in on the fun and propping Flick up against the wall so Alex can get at the wheels without having Flick being able to get away from it! All of a sudden, Gehenna backs off. Black Panther, oblivious, whacks Flick again and Flick seems to wobble off the wall. Alex, realizing what Andy was trying to do, tries to correct the mistake, but it's too late; Flick topples off both the wall and Black Panther, and... remains completely stationary. What's happened? Well, if we look at the side panel, it's full of deep cleaves and gashes from Black Panther's axe, and at least one of hits must have done something to Flick's internals! Less than impressed, Gehenna moves in and stacks Flick of the Wrist against the wall again, but it's a moot point now. Let's see now... The Watcher? Yep, he's coming over. Count-out? You got it!

    Looks like Flick of the Wrist got flicked one too many times! He'll have to settle for carpal tunnel syndrome - he's out!

    Round 3 is on!

    Well, both Wedge Devo and Gehenna have their sights set on a target - Revolver Ocelot, who managed to sneak by last round! They're not going to make the same mistake twice, or so they feel! They converge on the spinner, kind of ignoring Black Panther, who wants to be in on the action too! As Ocelot is bum-rushed and his spinning bar halted halfway up to speed, Black Panther gives Gehenna a good shove in the rear! No, not that way, you dirty-minded fools! The Panther takes a minor hit from the drum, but now proceeds to mash Gehenna a new one with the axe! Andy tries to turn his machine around but Alex takes him to the wall and holds him there! With Gehenna out of the way, Wedge Devo and Ocelot can fight to their hearts content! Or rather, Wedge Devo can flip Ocelot to its heart's content because that bar is completely stationary! Josh grinds his teeth as he watches his bot get thrown around like a cake at a music festival. But while that's happening, Black Panther is wailing on Gehenna's armour, which actually seems to be withstanding the blows relatively easily, save for a couple of small dents. Well, time's up, Alex, better let the flipper go! And he does indeed... to find that Gehenna is no longer ambulatory! Yoinks! The power of the panther has been shown! Um... where do we go from here? Wedge Devo leaves Ocelot alone and rams Black Panther in the back just because he can, and tosses him into the wall! It's a moot point though, because Gehenna is now being counted out by our resident Watcher with only 40 seconds in the match gone by!

    We have an eclectic Round 4 here; a flipper, an axe, and a spinner! Goodness me! So, what's on the cards this round? Well it starts with Wedge Devolution, the old codger that he is, attempting a rush towards - not Revolver Ocelot - but Black Panther! What folly is this? Or is it folly? Perhaps Steve has memories of last round, with Black Panther damaging the internals of Gehenna 2 with whack after diabolical whack? In any case, Alex Holt was not expecting that in the least and so is taken by surprise - Wedge Devolution easily slips by the front, tilts the Doomforall robot up, and sends it crashing onto its head with a mighty FLIP! The American spinner, rather confused by the lack of attention, has spun up and is trying over to the slots. Sonic, Sonic, Sonic! Ooh, we've finally got a zinger, boys! Steve is grateful for the slot activation, for as the bumper on the corner of the arena starts to reach even more menacing speeds than before, Steve begins to shove Black Panther there! It isn't easy though, as Mr. Alex starts to right his machine. But, of course, in comes the Ocelot wielding his Revolver - I mean his bar, and it connects with Black Panther's axe, warping the shaft and sending Alex's machine spinning out of Wedge Devo's grip! Black Panther is now righted, but its axe is now useless and this is monstrously not good for the Doomforall team!

    Smelling blood in the water, Wedge Devo charges forward to finish off the axebot, but surprisingly Black Panther is able to keep its flipper pointed at Wedge Devo! What does this mean? Nothing, at all, really, for Wedge Devo still slips underneath and with a mere toss, Black Panther is inverted again! An irate Alex tries to use the axe, but it's not working, so he tries the flipper instead... only for Black Panther to tilt up a little, then come back down! It looks like there's no more for Black Panther to do but be counted out, and The Watcher comes over... only to be attacked by Wedge Devo as well! Flip! Over goes the ref?!? You know what that means! Not just a red card, but that means the house robots are ANGRY!! Rorschach zooms out like Halley's Comet eager to punish Wedge Devo for its arrogance, but Revolver Ocelot, sneaky little bassa' that he is, smacks Rorschach's corner and knocks him askew a little! King Leer comes forward, QUITE nettled, but the competitors aren't focused on him right now - they want Rorschach to pay and now Wedge Devo's made his way over to the Watchmen-themed house bot! Can Wedge Devo throw over 200kg of bot atilt? Yes he can! With an even greater thrust than before, the mighty Rorschach is toppled! He tries to right himself, but he can't! You son of dastards, you! King Leer crashes into Wedge Devo's rear, whacking away with the crescent arms, but they do no more than annoy the diminutive-by-comparison Scotbot! Here's what does do more than annoy Steve - a major slam into the arena wall!

    Meanwhile, The Watcher finally manages to right itself, and then makes its way over to its fallen comrade, Rorschach, trying to right it. Josh smirks to himself, revs Ocelot's bar up, and knocks Rorschach out of The Watcher's grip, also knocking a piece of Rorschach's scoops off! If robots could sigh, The Watcher would certainly be doing so right now, and moves over to count out Black Panther as a rather unexpected Round 4 comes to a close!

    CEASE!

    The Black Panther's hunt is over - with a mere whimper than a roar!

    And that means the stage is set for the final!
