    EC8's are fine.. but how you mount them is more...

    EC8's are fine.. but how you mount them is more important. If you just have an access hole with no cover/ no physical stop to prevent the connector coming out... it probably will.

    we used those wheels on Carbide- did the job OK, but sicoflex them onto the rim's, or the hubs will just spin inside the tires as there not held in very well.

    Be sure to note that there is actually a max RPM for spinners at robotwars.... hence the weight in the weapon.... if you reach the maximum speed, add weight.

    Your calculations look right to me- i imagine the 0-20mph in 1.5 seconds is a calculation based on the motor torque, gearing, top speed, mass of the robot etc etc in an "ideal world" not taking grip...
