The ant weights are a completely different weight category of combat robots. Many people choose to start off building an ant weight before they move on to the heavies because ant weights are smaller, cheaper and often easier to build. Ant weights must not weigh more than 150 grams. On Sunday 25th July, I went along to the World Series 14 which was being held in a community centre in Bristol, UK. Many ant weight roboteers were there including the Behemoth boys who were made famous in the TV series, Robot Wars. They brought along an antweight version of Behemoth, Anty B.
There were many rounds to fight. After the arena was set up, battle commenced with robots fighting to the death. Most robots ended up being pushed out of the arena so good driving skills were essential. Some poor few robots also got shredded by some rather nasty spinners. Debris went all over the arena and bits went flying everywhere. Sparks flew and a lot of damage was caused. The pits were buzzing with roboteers desperately trying to repair their machines before the next battle. After the world series was over, awards were handed out by Craig Danby, the FRA's antweight representative. There were many awards given to well deserved robot creators. Certificates and trophies were handed out for the AWS14 Champion, the Runner Up, 3rd Place, Warm up event champion, Warm up event runner up, Warm up event 3rd place, Best Design, Best Looking Ant, Best Engineered Ant, Best Newcomer, Best Driver, Most Destructive Ant, Most Aggressive Ant, Most Battered Ant and Most Original Ant. The Grand Champion of the 14th Ant Weight World Series was AntiCide who also won the award for the best new comer - well done!! After all that, there was time for some ant weight robot soccer and some robot rumbles in the arena! I took many pictures of the event on the day and I am sharing some of them with you on my website so enjoy looking at them.
