I should be able to go then :D
No sign of that servo yet; I'll either keep it a rambot or find some way of fitting that big servo in, unlikely though.
Should I still bring my feather for display/car park fights?

Excellent! Certainly can bring your Featherweight though I can't be sure if it will see any action.
Arena was finished yesterday, the actual arena floor looks very small in comparison to the outer walls, may need to change that in a future development. ;)

I'll bring it along anyway, just in case. The servo doesn't fit, I'm going to improvise with my best friend, zipties, to stay upright.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Ah, good ol' Rhuallt Hill, steep and long is ye. :D
Weather is pretty sunny here today. Snow that fell last night has all but vanished. Car is packed and pretty much ready to go, will see you all this evening. ;)
I'm absolutely gutted, but I'm not going to be able to make it.
Bloody train strikes, why today?
I'm really sorry, I hope there'll be other meetups.
Oh no, sorry to hear! Well, I am sure there will be - it was one of the things I was going to raise this evening. ;)Quote:

Aye, that is right - look out for the bright yellow car with a grey frame around it in the car park - that is me. ;)Quote:
Starbucks for 3:30?
Got here abit early haha but I’m here now

Many thanks to those that came along today, it was really heartening to see you all! I know that the train strikes and the prevailing weather didn't help with the situation but as I said at the social, I am happy to organise another one of the back of this.
We ended up just generally chatting about upcoming designs for robots being designed/built and we also watched a few videos from the recent Ant Freeze 5 and UWE Beetle Brawl events amongst others. Bad Wolf and I also did end up having a couple of matches in the arena (despite me being completely un-organised) as well, I think he won a few of them ;)
I'll post the details of the next one after Extreme Robots Manchester, noting that this one is likely to be in the Chester area which, given where folks are coming from, seems to be the most "central" location at the moment.
Thanks for organising! Hope to have some kit to bring next time. Pleasure to meet you all.
Yeah thanks for organising it, and putting up with my incessant rambling and questions
And with any luck I should have something that starts to resemble a feather by then that I can bring down!
No worries, asking questions is how we progress (and some experimentation ;)).
Taking a cursory look at the places that I could potentially hire in Chester, there does seem to be several that fit the bill, will need to do some exploratory work first though - lugging that arena around is heavy work as the polycarbonate walls are 10kg on their own!. With that said, I've got one serious contender already which is 5 minutes from Chester train station.
Well, I'm sure that with some coordination we could arrange a couple of cars or extra hands, if by some miracle I get my car roadworthy again I wouldn't mind helping out.
Just wanted to say a massive thanks to Ocracoke for orginising the event! Was great to meet you guys and have a little battle or two! Looking forward to seeing any footage :) Id be up for it again and hopefully I can stay abit longer next time!
Bad Wolf
Here is a video of the fights we had with Osu and Bad Wolf's antweight. Apologies for the grainy footage, I need to install some lighting into the arena to make it easier for the camera to see.

Cheers for uploading the footage! It’s not too bad quality wise! :)
Bad Wolf
No worries ;) Glad you had a good time, I learnt a lot about organising these socials from doing this one.
Quick update while memory is jogged, parts ordered an Ant, so I should be able to join in he fun at the next one :proud:
Oooh nice, what sort of Ant? I've managed to get hold of a new NanoTwo V3 ESC, some HDPE, wheels and motors for my new Ant as well. Just need to find a suitable battery, weapon motor and and we are good to roll. Now I just need to find time to build it. ;)
Going to attempt to stick with the front hinge flipper and scale down the design for Pushover, and I also went for the NanoTwo V3, and some of Rory's wheels, no motors as yet tho, trying to find some 500rpm ones that aren't 2-3 week delivery...
Since the last one went well, I am looking to arrange another one of these. I'll get in contact with the folks who run the community centre in Hoole, Chester (http://www.hoolecommunitycentre.org.uk/) and see what they can offer. If we can't get into there, there is always the place we met up at last time (amongst others).
Dates... well I am open to pretty much anything in July, June is a absolute no-no as I (anticipate if I can get The Honey Badger 3 and/or Kaizen working) be going to Guildford, Herne Bay and Grantham over the 3 out of the 4 weekends plus I have another commitment in the only weekend in June that doesn't involve fighting robots. If I could get an indication of when would be preferable, I'd be happy to hear them.
I'll be bringing the Antweight arena again (hopefully with a bit more work done to it so it doesn't look half finished) along with the menagerie of robots that make up Team Kaizen so if you fancy coming along, why not? ;)
I’ll be there, hopefully with 3 Ants! Looking forward to it!
Bad Wolf
Count me In, with atleast 1 ant (maybe 2) and hopefully slightly more than 1/3 a feather.
And July works for me, but I might force you all to sing happy birthday (I won't).
Awesome, the more the merrier!
To expand on this, Bad Wolf and I have been working on getting a regular Antweight competition event together ourselves (and when funds and storage space permitting, Beetles) for the local region and we want to try and pilot the format we want to use for this at this social. I'll be putting up the 3 ants I have so it looks as if we'll have at least 6 or 7 for this already but of course, the more the merrier :D
We'll be releasing a signup form for this next week and I'll be getting in contact with the community centre in Hoole, Chester.
Just to note, just because this will be happening doesn't mean that only Antweight roboteers can come along. Like last time, any robooter is welcome to come along and have a chat and talk robots (or not!).
I might turn up with a couple of ants, assuming they survive AWS 55. Also assuming I manage to build them before then. :P
Hahaha, good point. I'll be going to AWS 55 as well so yeah, depends on how well they survive :P
Count me in. Might see if I can lash up an ant for then.
Awesome, hope to see your efforts!
The signup form for this is now available here: http://teamkaizen.ocracoke.org.uk/botfest.php and closes on the 31st of May at 23:59. We are going to try and aim for the event to run on the 29th of July.
We've not quite ironed out where this is going be yet since the Community Centre appears not be open on a Sunday and have limited opening hours anyway. We are therefore likely to have this in the Church Cafe, where the last social was. As a reminder, it is here:
Venue
InSpire Coffee Bar,
The Spire,
Breck Rd,
Wallasey,
Wirral,
CH44 3BB
I've signed up with 3 Bots :)
Bad Wolf
Awesome :D
Could I sign up and add another bot in the future if neccessary?
Signed up. Ashamed to say I had to look up the answer to the captcha ...
Certainly can, the form automatically closes the 1st of June but until then go for it. If you don't think you'll have your entry ready by the event, just leave a note in the "other" field saying that it might not be ready.Quote:

I remember seeing the fight when it first aired. Gosh that was ever such a long time ago :rofl:Quote:

Pullover has been entered! You'll see it's first real fight (and likely loss - the driver isn't very good at the moment), and I'm still holding out for having a second one ready by the event, heavily dependant on progress on the Feather.
I know the feeling, I've been struggling to find time to work on my Ants owing to the Middle/Heavyweight and the Featherweight. Great to see Pullover signed up though, I really need to work on the arena :S
